Newly signed Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Abdelwadie Mourad has revealed his ambition to become the best goalkeeper at the club after completing his move to the Ghanaian giants.
The 22-year-old Moroccan shot-stopper says Kotoko’s rich history, continental reputation and ambition convinced him to join the two-time CAF Champions League winners as he begins a new chapter in his career.
Mourad becomes the first Moroccan player to represent Asante Kotoko, arriving from Albanian side Basania FC to strengthen coach Eric Tinkler’s goalkeeping department ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Speaking after completing his move, Mourad expressed his desire to earn the trust of the supporters and play a key role in the club’s pursuit of more trophies.
“Who doesn’t know Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana? They have a lot of trophies, and I want to be part of this club, giving my best to let the team trust me.”
The goalkeeper added that his target is to establish himself among the club’s finest shot-stoppers.
“I wish to be the best goalkeeper in this club. This club is ambitious to do more, so that’s why I chose this club.”
Mourad began his professional career with Moroccan top-flight side Chabab Mohammedia, where he progressed through the youth system before earning promotion to the first team. He made 14 senior appearances for the club before moving to Albania.
The Moroccan joins a competitive goalkeeping unit at Kotoko that includes Danlad Ibrahim, Aziz Dari and youth graduate Clever Obeng, giving coach Eric Tinkler several options ahead of the new campaign.
Mourad, who names Yassine Bounou of Al Hilal and Morocco as his football idol, is now focused on proving himself at one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.
With determination to succeed and create his own legacy, the young goalkeeper hopes his time at Asante Kotoko will mark the beginning of a memorable chapter in his career.
