Asante Kotoko head coach Erik Tinkler has challenged his players to make the Baba Yara Sports Stadium a difficult ground for every visiting team as they prepare to face Heart of Lions on Sunday.
The South African coach believes establishing a strong home record will be crucial to Kotoko’s ambitions in the Ghana Premier League, with the Porcupine Warriors aiming to turn their home matches into a major source of points.
Tinkler says Kotoko must develop the mentality of protecting their home ground and making opponents uncomfortable from the moment they arrive in Kumasi.
“We need to make our stadium a fortress and make it difficult for teams to come here.”
The coach’s message comes ahead of the meeting with Heart of Lions, with Kotoko looking to secure their first league victory of the campaign.
Kotoko began the season with a 2-2 draw against Debibi United, a result that left the Porcupine Warriors with one point from their opening fixture. The club’s official website lists Heart of Lions as their next home opponent at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Tinkler is therefore keen to see his side respond positively in front of their home supporters and establish the kind of consistency that can keep them among the leading contenders throughout the season.
The coach, who was appointed by Kotoko in July ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, has previously spoken about the team’s preparations and ambitions for the new season.
For Kotoko, Sunday’s encounter presents an opportunity to turn their home advantage into three points. With the Baba Yara Sports Stadium expected to provide strong support from the home fans, Tinkler wants his players to match that backing with a determined performance on the pitch.
