Ghana’s Black Stars have received a boost ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with Mohammed Kudus and Alexander Djiku returning to the squad, while captain Jordan Ayew earns a call-up under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The team is preparing for crucial qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, but midfielder Thomas Partey has been left out due to injury concerns.
Kudus returns to the national team after missing Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign through injury. The Tottenham forward spent about seven months on the sidelines but has now recovered and is available for selection.
Defender Alexander Djiku has also regained his fitness after missing the World Cup. The Spartak Moscow player has been in good form for his club, completing three consecutive 90-minute appearances ahead of the international break.
Captain Jordan Ayew has been included in the squad despite making only limited appearances since joining Sheffield United. His experience and leadership are expected to be important as the Black Stars begin their quest to qualify for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Meanwhile, Thomas Partey remains unavailable as he continues to deal with injury issues.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare retains his place in the squad alongside Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Anang.
Defender Nathaniel Adjei has also returned after almost a year away from the national team, following impressive performances for French Ligue 1 side Lorient.
Other players rewarded for their performances at club level include Jan Gyamerah of SV Elversberg and Ronald Donkor of New York Red Bulls.
Ibrahim Osman and Sassuolo midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana are also among the players returning to the Black Stars squad.
Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, 2026, before hosting The Gambia on September 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars are also scheduled to travel to Morocco for a friendly against the Atlas Lions on October 4.
