Belgian-born Ghanaian winger Jesse Bisiwu believes he has what it takes to break into Barcelona’s first team after embarking on what he describes as a carefully planned development journey with the Spanish champions.
The highly-rated 18-year-old completed a move to Barcelona from Belgian side Club Brugge in July after the Catalan giants revived their interest following an unsuccessful attempt to sign him during the January transfer window.
Bisiwu immediately caught the eye after arriving in Spain, earning opportunities to train and feature with Barcelona’s senior squad during pre-season before joining Barça Atlètic, where he is expected to continue his football education under the club’s long-term development strategy.
Despite beginning his Barcelona career with the reserve side, the exciting winger remains convinced that the club offers the ideal environment to fulfil his ambitions of playing at the highest level.
“The plan is a five-year plan. I think the club can help me develop. That’s why I came to Barcelona,”Bisiwu told RTL Sports.
“The first time I heard that Barça came to see me I was very happy. It’s a dream club. I think Barça is not for everyone. Everyone has welcomed me very well, even the captains of the first team.”
The teenager’s confidence has only grown after being included in Barcelona’s first-team preparations, with the experience reinforcing his belief that he can eventually earn a permanent place in Hansi Flick’s senior squad.
For now, Bisiwu’s immediate focus is on impressing with Barça Atlètic, where regular competitive football is expected to accelerate his development. Strong performances with the reserve team could see him earn further opportunities to train and feature alongside Barcelona’s established stars.
Regarded as one of the club’s brightest young prospects, Bisiwu will be aiming to make steady progress through Barcelona’s renowned pathway and ultimately realise his dream of representing the first team at the iconic Spotify Camp Nou.
