Asante Kotoko assistant coach Diogo Peral has been handed the responsibility of leading the team as interim head coach following the departure of South African trainer Eric Tinkler.
The Porcupine Warriors parted ways with Tinkler on Monday after the coach requested to be released from his contract, bringing an end to his short spell in charge of the club.
Peral, who joined Kotoko as part of Tinkler’s technical team, will now oversee first-team duties while the club begins the process of identifying a permanent replacement.
The Portuguese coach is expected to guide the team during this transitional period as Kotoko seek stability early in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Tinkler’s exit came shortly after Kotoko suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, although the former Cape Town City coach insisted his decision to leave was unrelated to the result.
During his brief tenure, Tinkler guided Kotoko to victory in the 2026 Democracy Cup after defeating arch-rivals Hearts of Oak on penalties.
With Peral now taking temporary charge, attention turns to how Kotoko will respond as they look to revive their league campaign and maintain their ambitions for domestic success.
