Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the Black Stars are not the problem despite suffering consecutive defeats at the start of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Ghana’s difficult start continued on Tuesday when the Black Stars surrendered a two-goal advantage before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result followed a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké four days earlier, leaving Ghana without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
Despite the disappointing results, Queiroz has rejected suggestions that the Black Stars themselves are the problem, insisting that the team must instead find solutions to overcome its current challenges.
“The same answer that I give you now. We are facing some challenges, some problems. But the Black Stars was never a problem,” Queiroz said after the defeat to The Gambia.
“It is not a problem, and it will never be a problem in the future, as far as we find the solutions to bring the team together,” he added.
Ghana had looked set to secure their first points of the qualifying campaign after taking a 2-0 lead against The Gambia.
However, the visitors responded strongly, scoring four goals to complete a dramatic comeback and leave the Black Stars facing a difficult path in their bid to qualify for the continental tournament.
The Black Stars will have an opportunity to revive their campaign in October when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana are seeking a return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, bringing an end to their long-standing run of appearances at the continental showpiece.
