Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has revealed that the committee will summon the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Minister for Sports to explain the Black Stars’ recent poor performances.
The planned engagement follows Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the Black Stars losing their opening two Group C matches.
The four-time African champions were beaten 2-0 by Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia after throwing away a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Norgbey said Parliament intends to investigate the reasons behind the national team’s decline before deciding on the next course of action.
“We as a committee are yet to investigate the performance of the Black Stars in recent times. We plan to invite the GFA, the Minister, purposely and specifically to interrogate what actually is happening to Ghana football, especially when it comes to the Black Stars,” he said.
The committee’s decision is expected to place both the GFA and the Sports Ministry under parliamentary scrutiny as pressure mounts to restore the Black Stars’ fortunes and keep Ghana’s 2027 AFCON qualification hopes alive.
