Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has declined to comment on the Black Stars’ coaching situation following the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Queiroz stepped down after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia leaving the Black Stars rooted at the bottom of their qualifying group.
His exit has sparked speculation over who will take charge of the national team, but Kofi Adams insisted coaching appointments are not within his mandate.
Speaking on Joy FM, the Sports Minister said:
“I don’t hire coaches, and I don’t fire coaches.”
He added that questions regarding Queiroz’s departure should be directed to the appropriate authority responsible for such decisions.
“You can direct your questions about the firing of the coach to the body that needs to address it.”
The Black Stars have endured a difficult run of form, winning just one of their last eight matches in all competitions and failing to record an AFCON qualifying victory since September 2023.
Attention will now turn to the Ghana Football Association as it begins the search for a new head coach to revive Ghana’s faltering qualification campaign.
