Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has congratulated Samson Adamu on his appointment as the new General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing it as a landmark moment for Nigeria, West Africa and the African football community.
In a heartfelt message, Nyantakyi said Adamu’s elevation to CAF’s top administrative role was richly deserved, citing his extensive experience, leadership qualities and deep understanding of football governance.
According to the former GFA president, Adamu’s rise through the ranks of African football administration has been built on years of hard work and professionalism. He recalled that the Nigerian joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions under then-president Ahmad Ahmad before taking on greater responsibilities in organising the continent’s flagship tournaments and football events.
Nyantakyi also highlighted Adamu’s achievements before joining CAF, noting that he had established himself as a successful military officer, entrepreneur and sports administrator. He singled out the creation of the internationally acclaimed Copa Lagos beach soccer tournament as evidence of Adamu’s vision and ability to organise world-class sporting events.
He further praised Adamu’s academic credentials, including his FIFA Master in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, saying the combination of education and practical experience has prepared him well for the demanding responsibilities of the General Secretary position.
Nyantakyi described Adamu as a composed and action-oriented administrator whose calm demeanour and professionalism make him well suited to lead CAF’s administration during a crucial period for African football.
The former GFA boss also noted the historical significance of the appointment, pointing out that Adamu is the first Nigerian and the first West African to serve as CAF General Secretary since the Confederation of African Football was established in 1957.
He said the appointment represents not only a personal achievement for Adamu but also a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African football community.
Concluding his tribute, Nyantakyi wished Adamu success in his new role and expressed confidence that his tenure would be defined by integrity, professionalism and meaningful contributions to the development of football across the continent.
“Congratulations on this well-deserved appointment. You have made Nigeria and West Africa proud. My very best wishes to you as you assume this important responsibility. May your tenure be distinguished by integrity, professionalism, sound administration and meaningful contributions to the growth and development of African football.”
