Ghana could be set to receive a significant boost ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with reports claiming Minnesota United striker Kelvin Yeboah is now ready to commit his international future to the Black Stars.
According to US-based Ghanaian journalist Derrick Ayim, the 26-year-old has held discussions with his representatives and is prepared to represent Ghana should he receive a call-up from the Ghana Football Association.
The reported decision marks a dramatic turnaround for the Accra-born forward, who declined an invitation to join the Black Stars in 2021 after opting to pursue his international career with Italy, where he was raised and developed as a footballer.
Yeboah represented Italy at Under-21 level and previously explained that growing up in the European country had shaped his identity. However, reports now suggest he has had a change of heart and is willing to wear the colours of his country of birth.
While neither the player nor the Ghana Football Association has officially confirmed the development, the news is expected to excite Black Stars supporters, with Ghana eager to strengthen its attacking options.
Yeboah has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Major League Soccer side Minnesota United, scoring 18 league goals to become the club’s all-time leading scorer in a single MLS season. His prolific form has also attracted interest from Premier League outfit Everton, who are reportedly monitoring his situation.
Known for his pace, movement and clinical finishing, the versatile forward would provide another attacking option for Ghana’s technical team as the Black Stars look to revive their AFCON qualifying campaign.
Yeboah also comes from one of Ghana’s most famous footballing families. He is the nephew of Black Stars legend Anthony Yeboah, who scored 29 goals in 59 appearances for the national team and remains one of the country’s greatest-ever strikers.
Before Yeboah can represent Ghana, any international switch would still need to comply with FIFA eligibility regulations. However, if the reported change of heart is formalised, the striker could become a valuable addition to the Black Stars as they continue rebuilding for future international competitions.
