Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku is calling on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee to intervene and push for the removal of restrictions preventing alcoholic beverage companies from sponsoring sporting activities in Ghana.
He said the restrictions imposed by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) had cost the GFA a proposed five-million-dollar sponsorship deal with Guinness Ghana.
Mr Okraku appealed to the committee to help address the situation, stressing the financial implications of the restrictions on sports development.
“We lost a proposed five-million-dollar deal with Guinness Ghana because of the FDA’s restrictions,” he said.
He urged Parliament to engage the relevant authorities and reconsider the ban, arguing that sports organisations should be allowed to benefit from corporate sponsorship opportunities.
