Ghanaian forward Yakubu Nassam Ibrahim was on the scoresheet as Hong Kong Rangers fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Shatin in the Hong Kong Premier League on Saturday.
The 24-year-old produced a crucial second-half equaliser to help Rangers rescue a valuable point after falling behind at the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock during a closely contested first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The hosts eventually went in front in the 56th minute when former Manchester City and Spain midfielder David Silva calmly converted a penalty to hand Shatin the advantage.
Rangers responded positively and restored parity just 10 minutes later through Ibrahim. The Ghanaian forward showed composure inside the penalty area, firing a low finish beyond goalkeeper Bryan Lau Wai-hon to level the scores in the 66th minute.
Both teams continued to push for a winning goal during an entertaining closing spell, but solid defending and missed opportunities ensured the points were shared at the final whistle.
The draw provides Hong Kong Rangers with another valuable point as they continue their league campaign, with Ibrahim once again making an important contribution in the final third.
The goal was the Ghanaian attacker’s second in eight Hong Kong Premier League appearances this season. While he is yet to register an assist, Ibrahim continues to establish himself as a key attacking player for Rangers with his work rate, movement and eye for goal.
