Swedish-Ghanaian midfielder Sion Oppong delivered another impressive performance as Toulouse FC defeated RC Strasbourg 3-1 in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.
The 21-year-old started the match at the Stadium de Toulouse and played a key role in helping the hosts secure a convincing victory, contributing directly to the opening goal before half-time.
Oppong created the breakthrough in the 45th minute when he provided the assist for Santiago Hidalgo, who calmly finished to give Toulouse a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.
Toulouse continued their dominance after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 56th minute through defender Mark McKenzie. The American centre-back rose highest to head home Cristian Cásseres’ corner kick, putting the hosts firmly in control.
Strasbourg attempted to fight their way back into the contest and reduced the deficit in the 67th minute through Giovanni Reyna, giving the visitors renewed hope of securing a positive result.
However, Toulouse responded strongly and restored their two-goal advantage nine minutes later. Thomas Jørgensen sealed the victory in the 76th minute after converting a pass from Rasmus Nicolaisen.
Oppong continued to influence proceedings before being replaced in the 72nd minute following another energetic display in midfield.
The assist takes his season tally to one goal and one assist in seven Ligue 1 appearances, highlighting the growing importance of the Swedish-born Ghanaian midfielder in Toulouse’s squad.
