Former deputy minister, Mr. Joseph Yamin, has strongly kicked against Ghana Captain Asamoah Gyan decision to retire from international football.
With barely 32 days to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan sent shock waves amongst football enthusiasts in the country after he announced his retirement from the national team.
“If the decision of the coach is to give captaincy of the tournament to another player while I am named in the team of the tournament, I wish to recuse myself from the tournament” Gyan said in a portion of his Statement on Monday.
In a two-part press release, the in-form Kayserispor striker said he was resigning due to feeling sense of betrayal.
But according to him, the Kayserispor striker’s decision to retire from the Black Stars team under such a bizarre circumstances was inappropriate.
Commenting further in an interview with Kumasi- based Angel FM, Mr Yamin indicated that, the tone of the Ghana all-time leading scorer was not the best, adding that his advisers didn’t handle the matter so well in the interest of Ghana football.
He says ”I do not support the decision of Asamoah Gyan to retire because of a captaincy disagreement. I think his advisers have failed him and didn’t handle the issue well.”
