Ghana’s senior female national team [Black Queens] have vowed to demonstrate against the ministry of youth and sports and government should they fail to pay them all the bonuses owed them before January 7, 2017.
The Black Queens represented Ghana in the just concluded 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations staged in Cameroon and finished third after losing a fiercely contested semi-final game against the hosts but rallied from the shocking defeat to pick bronze in the third and fourth play-off.
Speaking to Kumasi based Otec FM in an interview, Linda Eshun, a key member of the squad insisted: “we have call off our demonstration which was slated for today due to a dialogue between the Black Queens’ management committee and ministry of youth and sport’s top hierarchy.
“The Ghana FA has promised to do everything within their powers to ensure that the monies we are entitled to are paid with no further delay or else we will advice ourselves.
“Some of us are breadwinners in our family and its so worrying that after every national assignment, we have to beg for monies due us,” she added.
Our outfit understands that each player, who participated in qualifiers as well as the tournament is entitled to $25,000 while those who made the squad after the qualification to the tournament will take less.
Reports however suggest that the players fear should they fail to demand their pound of flesh now, the transition of political power from the ruling NDC government to NPP administration can further delay their bonuses.
