Ghanaian striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu continued his impressive form by finding the back of the net for Rio Ave in their Portuguese Liga clash against FC Famalicao on Friday.
Despite Yakubu’s goal, Rio Ave suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao, marking his second consecutive goal in as many games.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian opened the scoring for Rio Ave in the 14th minute, converting a penalty kick to give the visitors an early lead.
However, Famalicao quickly responded, with Venezuelan forward Jhonder Cadiz equalizing just three minutes later after receiving a pass from Brazilian player Sorriso.
Cadiz completed his brace in the 66th minute, securing the victory for the home side despite veteran midfielder Adrien Silva missing a penalty in stoppage time for Rio Ave.
Former Ghana international Emmanuel Boateng also featured in the game, starting for Rio Ave before being substituted in the 70th minute.
Abdul-Aziz Yakubu’s return from a loan spell in China has seen him make a significant impact, scoring twice in six appearances in the Portuguese top-flight. His consistent performances are a testament to his quality and goal-scoring prowess for Rio Ave.
