Hearts of Oak’s interim coach, Abdul Rahim Bashiru, granted an extensive interview in the post-match interview with StarTimes after the 1-1 draw against Nations FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
When Bashiru was quizzed on how he felt concerning the goal Ayi conceded. Richard Ayi’s blunder gifted Nations FC a 94th-minute equaliser.
“Another blunder from the goalkeeper, because we didn’t defend well like the last game against Kotoko. That is the problem we’ve been facing but we go back and do the homework as well”.
On the level of the team’s performance, he said, “Well, in the first half, No! but in the second half, Yes! That is what I was expecting. As you can see just like from the officiating, there’s too much pressure on my boys so I told them to calm down, to keep the ball and to possess the ball. Anytime we hold the ball and play, you can see we are playing them.
“I told them there is so much pressure on them and we didn’t defend aggressively as well”
On the difficulties in finding consistency ahead of the Ga Mantse Derby in Kumasi next week, he said, it is another difficult game, you know. So we go back and do our correction that’s all.
On Richmond Ayi’s recent blunders ” Now I can’t say anything about it, we go back and I will ask the goalkeeper trainer because I am not in charge of that department so we go back and talk about it and see the way forward”
Abdul Rahim Bashiru has been in charge of Accra Hearts of Oak in their last 5 Premier League games after Martinus Koopman was sacked. He has just recorded one victory, drawn 2 and lost 2.
