Heart of Lions striker Abednego Tetteh has called on the government to cancel the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, arguing that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) lacks competence in managing the competition.
His comments come in the wake of the league’s temporary suspension following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, known as ‘Nana Pooley’, during a Week 19 fixture at Nsoatre. The league was halted but is now set to resume on March 7, with matchday 23 fixtures confirmed by the GFA.
Speaking in an interview with Lawson TV, Tetteh strongly criticized the football governing body, insisting that the GFA should be dissolved and investigated, with the government taking over the management of the league.
“The government should cancel the league and sack everyone at the FA. They should be investigated. The government should manage the league,” the experienced striker stated.
Tetteh, who has enjoyed a decorated career in Ghanaian football, has won the Ghana Premier League and two FA Cups. He was also the top scorer in the 2022/23 season with 16 goals. His comments add to the growing debate about the state of Ghanaian football administration following recent controversies.
