Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif has secured a personal accident insurance cover worth GH¢2,050,000.00 from Insurance company GLICO to the Black Stars ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The presentation, which was done by GLICO Managing Director, Mr Andrew Acheampong-Kyei to Hon Mustapha Ussif is expected to cover the entire contingent of 41 members against all forms of accidents on and off the pitch.
“It is basically a 24-hour cover until the team returns to the shores of Ghana. We believe this will go a long way in boosting the confidence of the team in playing fully and confidently, knowing that they have a trusted partner in GLICO,”said Mr Andrew Acheampong-Kyei
Hon. Mustapha Ussif thanked Glico for the massive insurance cover and reiterated the team’s commitment to ending the country’s long wait for the African title.
“Let me say that in expressing my gratitude to you and GLICO and, on behalf of the Black Stars, this gesture will strengthen their resolve to put up their utmost best and give their best performance at the AFCON,” he said.
The Black Stars have been camping in Doha, Qatar for the past two weeks ahead of the tournament.
The team will wrap up their test matches against African Champions Algeria on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Ghana is in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and Comoros
The Black Stars will face North African side Morocco in the opening group C game in Yaounde on January 10.
