In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier against Angola, a minute’s silence will be held in memory of Christian Atsu, who passed away last month due to an earthquake that occurred in Turkey and Syria.
The match between Ghana and Palancas Negras will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium today, with kickoff scheduled at 16:00GMT. Atsu, who always wore the number seven jersey during his time with the national team, will be honored in the 7th minute of the game.
Under new manager Chris Hughton, Ghana will aim to maintain their unbeaten record before traveling to Luanda for the reverse fixture on March 27 in the matchday four games.
Atsu was an essential member of the Black Stars, having received his debut call-up from former head coach Kwesi Appiah. The former Chelsea and Everton winger represented Ghana in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and was famously awarded the best player at the 2015 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea.
Last week Friday, Atsu was laid to rest in his hometown, Dogobome.
