Medeama’s dynamic duo, consisting of Jonathan Sowah and Derrick Fordjour, have positioned themselves as strong contenders for inclusion in the Black Stars squad as they prepare for their upcoming showdown against the Central African Republic (CAR).
The remarkable performances of these two offensive talents have not gone unnoticed by Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, who is expected to unveil the roster for the impending match later this week.
Scheduled for September 7, the Black Stars are gearing up for a crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against CAR. With the stakes elevated, Ghana merely requires a draw to secure their berth in next year’s Ivory Coast tournament. Conversely, CAR’s path to qualification hinges on triumphing over the Ghanaian team in Kumasi.
Hughton’s scouting endeavors encompass a diverse array of players, encompassing those from the local league. Among the standout prospects identified, Sowah and Fordjour shine brightly. Both players played pivotal roles in guiding Medeama to victory as the reigning champions of Ghana during the previous season.
Of particular note is Sowah, who left a significant impact by amassing an impressive total of 12 goals in 18 matches during his debut season with the Mauve and Yellows.
Sowah’s prowess was further showcased when he secured the decisive goal for Medeama in their CAF Champions League encounter against Remo Stars in Cape Coast. This achievement propelled Medeama to the next stage of the tournament, clinched through a penalty shootout victory in Nigeria after the aggregate scoreline remained level at 1-1 following regular time.
