Sudan striker John Manu has expressed confidence ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Ghana, emphasizing that his team is under no pressure to secure a positive result.

The Falcons will face the Black Stars in the first leg of the doubleheader today at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 16:00 GMT.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Manu, who plays for Al-Ahli Benghazi, assured that the Sudanese squad remains calm and prepared, unfazed by the reputation of their opponents.

“Sudan is not new to this kind of competition, having once won the AFCON,” Manu stated. “We’ve beaten Ghana before to qualify for the AFCON, so there is no pressure. We are very calm, and we are well prepared for this match.”

The striker also shared his excitement about playing in Ghana, mentioning his admiration for Black Stars legend Asamoah Gyan. “I am very happy to be in Ghana, and my favorite player is Asamoah Gyan. I’m honored to play in front of his family and proud to play like him,” Manu added.

When asked about the influence of head coach Kwesi Appiah, Manu praised the coach’s impact on the team, noting the vast experience Appiah has brought to Sudan’s squad.

Sudan, currently second in Group F with three points, will look to extend their advantage when they face Ghana, who are third with just one point. The return leg is scheduled for Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
