“We are really happy that we have finally managed to get Lamin Jawara up here on a long contract. Already this summer we agreed that we would like to see more of each other, and we happily managed to get everything in place before the transfer window closed, but it has been a long process that has been disrupted by corona and visa, and therefore joins he only now,” said sports manager Jesper Fredberg
“He is a young defender that we see a very exciting potential in. He is a left-footed midfielder who wants to play with his feet and he has good speed and a great physical potential, and then we saw this summer that he fell well into the environment here. We are also aware that it takes some getting used to coming directly from Gambia to Viborg, so we have patience, but he is a player we expect a lot from in the future.” He concluded.
The 192 cm tall midfielder participated last year in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where Gambia won bronze and Jawara was selected for the tournament team.
He joins the Danish club from Banjul Hawks FC in his home country, and is now looking forward to continuing his career in Denmark:
“I have been waiting a long time for this day, so I am very happy to finally be here again. I know that Viborg is a really good club to be in, and here are talented people who give me good conditions to develop as a football player. It is a strong squad with many good players and I want to work hard every single day and help the team with everything I can,” Jawara said.
