English Premier League side Newcastle United are showing an interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.
That’s according to Telefoot’s Julien Maynard, who claims that Newcastle would like to bring in Diaby before Monday’s transfer deadline.
However, unless Newcastle come up with a huge bid for Diaby, it looks like Leverkusen will resist the temptation to sell.
Leverkusen have Diaby tied down to a contract until 2025, so the German side are under no pressure to sell in the coming days.
Add in that Leverkusen are chasing Champions League qualification and they will have no intention of selling Diaby.
The French winger has been in blistering form this season, smashing 11 goals and eight assists in 26 games.
Against Augsburg on Saturday, Diaby hit a hat-trick in a 5-1 thrashing, tormenting the Augsburg defence with pace and devastating finishing.
The 22-year-old came through the Paris Saint-Germain ranks before deciding to leave for Leverkusen in 2019.
Now one of the top wingers in the Bundesliga, Diaby only needs a yard and he’s gone.
Imagine Diaby on one flank and Allan Saint-Maximin on the other? That would be an absolute nightmare for any Premier League defence.
Diaby has been hailed as ‘amazing, irresistible and astonishing’ over in Germany, and a big move away from Leverkusen will likely come at some stage.
It seems very unlikely that Newcastle will be able to get this deal done before Monday, but there could be scope for the summer.
If Newcastle stay in the Premier League, they will likely go big for new signings – and Diaby may be one of them.
The only problem for Newcastle then is that Diaby could continue shining and naturally attract interest from bigger clubs.
Diaby is certainly an ambitious target for Newcastle, but one that’s hard to pull off with just days of the window to go.
