Standard Liege announced on Tuesday that former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has joined the club as an assistant manager in the Belgian Pro League.
The 40-year-old Ivorian, who accumulated over 100 international caps during his illustrious playing career, completes the coaching team under newly appointed head coach Carl Hoefkens, who took charge on Friday.
Having previously played for clubs like Monaco and Barcelona, among others, Toure had a brief stint as an assistant coach at Ukrainian First League side Olimpik Donetsk and Russian Premier League club Akhmat Grozny in 2021.
Standard Liege finished in sixth place during the 2022-23 regular season in the Belgian Pro League. Toure’s arrival adds further experience and expertise to the coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season.
