Ajax Amsterdam manager Erik Ten Hag has disclosed that it is near impossible for attacking midfielder Kudus Mohammed to play for Ghana’s Black Stars in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The 21-year-old has been nursing an injury since November last year. Nonetheless, he was named in the Black Stars’ 28-man final squad to represent the West African country at the tournament.
Although, he is yet to arrive in camp after two games, as the Black Stars continue to battle for qualification in his absence, Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac must plan life without him.
The Black Stars lost 1-0 on opening day to Morocco before sharing the spoils 1-1 with Gabon on Friday.
“[Not including him in the Ajax squad against Utrecht] already proves what I’ve said all along. He is not [match] fit and it would be strange if he would join the [AFCON]. He is still yet to get fully better,” Ten Hag said
The Black Stars, non Sunday morning departed their base in Yaounde to Garoua to prepare for the final game against Comoros on Tuesday.
The four-time African Champions will need a win over Comoros to stand the chance of qualifying to the next stage as runners up in the group or one of the best four third-place countries.
Ghana hasn’t won the AFCON title since 1982 despite coming close to winning it in 2010 and 2015.
