Ajax has turned down Barcelona’s attempt to secure a loan deal for Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus, According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT.
The Spanish club initiated talks with Ajax, proposing an initial loan arrangement for the 23-year-old midfielder, coupled with a mandatory purchase clause. Nevertheless, Ajax promptly rejected the offer, asserting a valuation of €40 million for the player.
Mohammed Kudus has showcased remarkable progress since his move from Nordsjaelland to Ajax three years ago. Despite a period of adaptation, his explosive performance during the 2022/23 season captured attention, amassing 18 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances. He has also cemented his role within Ghana’s national team.
The versatile midfielder’s future has generated speculation, attracting interest from various clubs. West Ham United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all been linked to him. Additionally, Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly had an arrangement in place with Ajax, which Kudus opted against.
Barcelona’s involvement introduced another layer to the situation, but their proposition was swiftly turned down by Ajax. The Dutch club values Kudus at over €40 million. However, Barcelona’s financial constraints might pose challenges in meeting this valuation.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Kudus has already agreed to personal terms with West Ham. Nevertheless, Ajax has rebuffed two offers from the Premier League club.
