In Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist, the orphan Oliver asked for more gruel for one of the children who told the other children that if he did not get an extra bowl of gruel he might eat one of them.
The children in the workhouse were fed gruel for their meals and were often very hungry as it was never enough for them.
The boys drew lots to see who would be the one to ask for more gruel. Oliver lost and hence was selected. He walked up to the master of the workhouse one day and said ‘Please, sir, I want some more.’
Al Ahly has never been hungry to lift the coveted CAF Champions League trophy as they already have 11 but they always ask the competition for more.
Al Ahly will play their 5th consecutive CAF Champions League finals and it seems they are not fed up with winning the coveted trophy. The Egyptian giants are simply the Oliver Twist of African club football. They are never satisfied and are always asking for more for their masters and fans.
Their next opponent in the finals is Esperance Sportive de Tunis with the first leg set to be played in Rades this Saturday.
Al Ahly’s player’s mentality on the continent is insane. They believe they have no competitors and they have proven this over and over and over again.
Ahead of the crunch clash in Tunisia, Al Ahly’s players have been exuding immense confidence. Speaking to the club’s official Media, the Red Devils players were confident ahead of the finals.
“I want my fourth CAF Champions League title with Al Ahly. Here, we always want more,” says Afsha Magdi.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Red Devils from Pyramids in 2019 and has already won three CCL titles and needs more.
“I have always wanted to win the CAF Champions League trophy, I always give my all and play with a strong fighting spirit because I want to achieve a tournament like this and do it with an amazing club like Al Ahly,” says Emam Ashour.
The 26-year-old former Zamalek midfielder will play his first CAF Champions League finals and is ready to fight to win his first-ever Champions League title although he has won Egyptian league titles for both Zamalek and Al Ahly.
“We know that this final will be very difficult, but we will prepare for the match and prepare for it well and this is not the first time we will play in Radès. All the players know the value and difficulty of the task ahead. We all have a big role to play,” said Mohamed El Shenawy.
Egyptian number-one goalkeeper, Mohammed El Shenaawy rejoined Al Ahly from Petroject in 2016 and has been the undisputed number-one goalkeeper for the Red Devils since then. The 35-year-old is a three-time winner of the CAF Champions League and is ready to deliver once again even though it remains unknown if head coach Marcel Koller will keep the youngster Oufa Shobeir or bring back the experienced Shenaawy after being out for more than 3 months.
Esperance Sportive de Tunis has a huge job at hand because they are in a battle against a team that is never satisfied after having been fed eleven times in the competition with the coveted trophy.
Al Ahly players are asking for more CCL trophies like when Oliver Twist in Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist asked for more gruel and hence Esperance must be wary of the Red Devils threat.
