German club Alemannia Aachen has signed German-born Ghanaian defensive all-rounder Gideon Jung. The 31-year-old was most recently under contract with Kayserispor.
Jung took his first steps in men’s football at Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. For the 2014/15 season, the defensive all-rounder moved to Hamburger SV, where he played for several years in both the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga, before joining SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the summer of 2021.
In total, he has 83 Bundesliga appearances and 125 matches in the second division to his name. From there, he took the step abroad last summer and signed with the Turkish top-flight club Kayserispor. One of the highlights of his career is winning the U21 European Championship in 2017 with Germany.
“I know Gideon from my time in Fürth and I know how reliable he is. Especially when things get tough. After his injury breaks, he fought his way back with a lot of discipline. For our squad structure, he is a real asset with his versatility and experience,” explains Sporting Director Rachid Azzouzi.
Head coach Mersad Selimbegovic also expressed his ecitement with the capture of Jung: “Gideon gives us both aerial and tackling strength, and he can also play in central defense as well as in the defensive midfield. I am pleased that he is with us, because his composure and clear style of play will do us good in the coming weeks.”
“I am very happy to now be part of the team. The conversations with Rachid and Mersad were open and clear from the start. After the past few months, I especially want to get back into the rhythm quickly and help the squad with full energy,” said Jung.
