Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku expressed his delight after making his debut for Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
He came on as a late substitute in Fenerbahce’s 1-0 preseason friendly win against Neftçi from Azerbaijan.
Djiku took to Twitter to share his joy, stating, “Very happy to have played my first minutes under my new colors.”
The 28-year-old center-back officially joined Fenerbahce’s preseason just four days ago, signing a three-year deal with an option for an additional year.
Despite interest from Bundesliga side Mainz 05 and French Ligue 1 club Lille, Djiku chose Fenerbahce because of their vision, and he quickly integrated with his new teammates.
During the friendly match, Djiku started on the bench and was subbed on in the 81st minute, replacing Serdar Aziz. Fenerbahce secured a 1-0 victory, with new signing Edin Dzeko scoring the decisive goal.
Djiku’s debut for Fenerbahce marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in his career, and he aims to contribute to the team’s success in domestic and international competitions.
