Black Queens forward Alice Kusi is calling on her teammates to rise to the occasion as Ghana prepares for a must-win clash against Tanzania in their final Group C game at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana has had a difficult start to the tournament, losing 2-0 to South Africa and managing only a 1-1 draw with Mali. The team now sits at the bottom of the group with just one point, level with Tanzania, and must secure victory on Monday to have any hope of progressing to the quarter-finals.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Kusi made a passionate appeal for unity and determination.
“We have our last game to play at WAFCON. The excuses are too many. It’s time we put everything aside and play for the badge,” she said. “I’m not saying we haven’t tried, but football is about results.”
Her comments come at a critical moment for the Black Queens, who are under pressure to deliver after missing the last two editions of the tournament. A win could lift Ghana to four points and potentially secure qualification, depending on results elsewhere in the group.
