Aliou Cisse’s contract with the Senegal national team has been extended to a further 2 years after being at the helm since March 2015.
At the end of his latest contract in 2026, Cisse would have spent 11 years as the head coach of Senegal.
Cisse took over from Alain Giresse, the French tactician, after failing to qualify the Lions of Terranga from the Group Stage of the 2015 AFCON.
Aliou Cisse, 47, has qualified Senegal for the last two World Cups and he is tasked to take them to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA-Canada-Mexico.
The former skipper for Senegal has played in the finals of the AFCON twice as he finished as runner-up in 2019 and won on penalties against Egypt to lift Senegal’s only AFCON trophy in 2021.
Senegal was the bookmakers’ favourite for the 2023 AFCON but lost on penalties to the eventual winners Ivory Coast in Round 16 but his contract has been renewed.
