Ghana international Emmanuel Essiam has described the victory over Nice on Thursday night as ‘amazing’ following Basel’s qualification to the next stage of the Europa Conference League.
The Swiss side booked their place in the semifinal of the competition after winning 2-1 away from home against the Ligue 1 side with Essiam featuring in the game.
Kasim Adams, on loan from Hoffenheim, scored the decisive goal in extra time, marking his first-ever European competition goal.
Despite conceding early against Nice in the second leg of the quarter-finals, Basel showed determination and fought back to level the score in the 87th minute with Jean-Kévin Augustin’s goal.
In extra time, Adams’ exceptional header secured the win for Basel.
The victory marks Basel’s first appearance in a European semi-final since 2013, and they will now face Italian team Fiorentina in the next round.
Reacting to the win, Essiam shared a post on social media expressing his excitement.
