Ghanaian forward André Ayew has thrown his support behind Ghanaian jollof rice, insisting that the country’s version is special and leaving no room for debate over which country makes the best jollof.
The former Black Stars captain made his position clear in the long-running jollof debate, which has often sparked friendly rivalry among Ghanaians, Nigerians and other West Africans.
Ayew expressed confidence in Ghana’s popular rice dish, declaring that his loyalty to Ghana jollof would not change.
“There’s no debate. Our jollof is special. This is Ghana jollof once and for all. That’s my stand, and I’m not changing!”
His comments are likely to excite Ghanaian food lovers, many of whom proudly defend the country’s jollof rice whenever the debate resurfaces on social media.
Jollof rice, prepared with rice, tomatoes, pepper, onions and a blend of spices, remains a popular dish across West Africa. However, differences in ingredients, cooking methods and flavour have made the question of which country produces the best version a regular subject of friendly competition.
For Ayew, however, the verdict is settled: Ghana jollof takes the crown.
