Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak are once again under scrutiny after being hit with a new financial complaint at FIFA, this time involving former defender Michael Awuah Mensah.
According to a report by Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Mensah’s representatives, Royolbridge Industries, have formally petitioned world football’s governing body over an outstanding debt of GH¢58,000 owed by the Accra-based club.
The claim reportedly includes compensation, unpaid salaries, and the outstanding balance of the player’s signing-on fee. Mensah and Hearts of Oak mutually terminated his contract in August 2025 after the club deemed him surplus to requirements, paving the way for his subsequent move to Berekum Chelsea.
This latest petition compounds Hearts of Oak’s recent history of financial and contractual disputes, which have repeatedly drawn sanctions from FIFA.
The Phobians were previously fined $150,000 for the wrongful termination of former technical director Rene Hiddink, a case that also resulted in a transfer ban. In separate matters, the club was forced to settle a GH¢106,000 debt to former player Francis Adjetey to lift another ban, while FIFA also ordered Hearts to pay GH¢120,000 to Gladson Awako for unpaid entitlements.
With another case now before FIFA, pressure continues to mount on Hearts of Oak’s management to stabilise the club’s finances and avoid further sanctions that could impact their sporting ambitions both domestically and on the continental stage.
