Antoine Semenyo has acknowledged that former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan is a major influence on his playing style.
In last month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Bournemouth forward was Ghana’s hero after coming off the bench to beat Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Chris Hughton’s first game in command of the national team.
Ghana’s last goal against the Palancas Negras was made by Asamoah Gyan in 2010 during the quarterfinals of the AFCON, which was hosted by Angola, with the latest being Semenyo’s goal at the Baba Yara.
Semenyo has been a huge admirer of the former Sunderland player since his heyday in major competitions for Ghana, and he was thrilled to be the next to score against the same opponents after Gyan disclosed that.
“I used to watch him when he came to AFCON competitions and the World Cup. He was such a big player and I dream to be exactly like him” Semenyo told GhanaWeb.
The 23-year-old joined Bournemouth in the English Premier League during the January transfer window.
