Ghana forward has opened up about the heavy pressure that comes with playing for the Black Stars, saying that every touch of the ball is closely watched and judged by fans back home.

The attacker, who is expected to play a big role for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, shared honest thoughts about the expectations placed on national team players and how intense the reactions can be.

Semenyo, who has developed into an important forward at club level with , explained that life with the national team is very different from club football. According to him, Ghanaian fans are very passionate and demand high performance in every match.

“In Ghana, the expectation is that every ball I touch has to end up in the back of the net. If it doesn’t, people say you are not good enough. That’s how it is,” he said.

He added that football in Ghana is treated with deep emotion and seriousness, and that fans expect immediate results whenever the Black Stars play. When the team does not perform well, the reaction from supporters can be very strong.

“They love football so much. Football is everything for them. So when we don’t do well, there is a lot of disappointment and pressure,” he explained.

Despite this pressure, Semenyo remains focused and motivated. He made his debut for the in 2022 and has since become a regular member of the squad. So far, he has scored three goals in 34 appearances for his country.

While his goal return for Ghana is still growing, his performances at club level have improved greatly, especially after his rise in European football. His move to Manchester City in January further increased expectations, making him one of the most talked-about Ghanaian players ahead of the World Cup.

Semenyo also spoke about the support he expects from his family during the tournament. He believes many relatives will travel to the United States to watch him represent Ghana on the biggest stage in world football.

“I think my mum and dad will be there for sure. My uncles and aunties too. There will be a lot of them supporting me,” he said with a smile.

Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, Ghana has been placed in a tough group alongside Panama, Croatia, and England. Semenyo is expected to play a key attacking role as the Black Stars aim to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in many years.

His comments highlight both the pride and pressure that come with wearing the Ghana shirt. For Semenyo, representing his country is a great honour, but it also comes with high expectations from fans who always want to see success.

As the tournament approaches, all eyes will be on him and the Black Stars to see how they handle the challenge on football’s biggest stage.
