Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo stole the spotlight as AFC Bournemouth staged a sensational 4-3 comeback triumph against Luton Town in the English Premier League, earning himself the coveted Sofascore’s man-of-the-match award.
The thrilling encounter at the Vitality Stadium saw Bournemouth overturn a three-goal deficit in the second half, with Semenyo playing a pivotal role by netting two crucial goals.
Luton Town started the game with vigor, quickly taking the lead through Jordan Clark’s strike in the opening 10 minutes. However, Bournemouth remained undeterred, with Luis Sinisterra threatening the visitors’ defense on multiple occasions.
Despite their resilient efforts, Bournemouth found themselves trailing 3-0 at halftime, courtesy of goals from Chiedozie Ogbene and Ross Barkley.
The second half witnessed a remarkable turnaround, as Dominic Solanke’s goal early on ignited Bournemouth’s resurgence. Illia Zabarnyi then headed home to further narrow the deficit, setting the stage for Semenyo’s heroics.
Semenyo showcased his prowess by firing a thunderous shot into the bottom corner to level the scores, before sealing the comeback with another clinical finish in the 84th minute.
The victory marked a historic achievement for Bournemouth, as they became the first team since the 2003/04 season to overturn a 3-0 deficit and emerge victorious in the Premier League.
However, Semenyo who is expected to be named in Black Stars’ squad for this month’s international friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda was rated 8.9 by Sofascore, the highest on the night.
