Legon Cities FC, a club in the Ghana Premier League, encountered a frightening armed robbery incident on their journey back to Accra after a match against FC Samartex during the eighth week of the season.
After a challenging trip to Samreboi, where they suffered a 3-0 loss to FC Samartex, the Legon Cities team bus was ambushed by armed robbers in Kwanfifi, a town located along the Bibiani to Kumasi highway.
Nicholas Mensah, a player for Legon Cities, confirmed the incident, stating, “We have been attacked by armed robbers. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but they made off with all our belongings. It was a terrible experience,” as Mensah told Kickgh.com.
This troubling event highlights an ongoing security concern not only for Legon Cities but also for several other clubs in the Ghana Premier League.
Unfortunately, Women’s Premier League teams such as Perpia Ladies and Savannah Ladies have also been victims of armed robbery in similar situations.
