Arsenal have entered late-stage negotiations with midfielder Thomas Partey in an effort to resolve his future at the club, according to a report by Football Insider.
Partey, who joined the Gunners from Atlético Madrid in 2020, sees his current contract expire at the end of this season. With the summer transfer window approaching, the 31-year-old has attracted significant interest from top European clubs such as Barcelona and Juventus, as well as from several teams in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Football Insider’s senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke confirmed that discussions between Arsenal and Partey are actively ongoing. The North London club, initially thought to be prepared to let the Ghanaian leave on a free transfer, have now shifted their position and are keen to retain him.
This change of heart comes on the back of Partey’s impressive displays since returning from injury. His influence in midfield has been vital for Mikel Arteta’s side, contributing significantly across 47 appearances in all competitions this season.
Arsenal notably struggled in his absence during their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, but Partey is expected to be available for the decisive return leg at the Parc des Princes.
Partey is believed to be settled at the Emirates and open to agreeing to a new two-year deal. However, should negotiations stall, he is likely to consider alternative options, with interest from abroad continuing to intensify.
