Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on emerging Ghanaian talent Caleb Yirenkyi, a player whose rapid rise in Denmark has drawn comparisons to Chelsea legend Michael Essien.
According to The Mail, the Gunners view the 19-year-old FC Nordsjaelland midfielder as a long-term prospect, but they face strong competition from Bournemouth, who see him as a player capable of making an immediate impact under Andoni Iraola.
Yirenkyi is currently valued at £20 million, a price tag many consider a potential bargain given his development and versatility.
Originally deployed as a right-sided midfielder—and even featuring at right-back on his Ghana debut in May—the youngster reached a new level this season after being converted to a holding midfielder by Nordsjaelland manager Jens Fonsskov Olsen.
His transformation into a commanding No. 6 has taken place under the guidance of compatriot Michael Essien, who serves as the club’s assistant coach. Yirenkyi’s performances in the role have been so assured that fans and pundits alike have begun likening him to the former Chelsea star.
The promising midfielder has notched one goal and two assists in 16 matches this season, adding to his total of three goals and four assists in 34 appearances since joining Nordsjaelland in 2024 from Right to Dream, the club’s partner academy in Ghana.
