Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum, praised the fans for their incredible support following a decisive victory over fierce rivals Hearts of Oak on matchday 31 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors completed the double over their arch-rivals with a thrilling 3-2 win earlier in the season, and now a commanding 2-0 triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ugandan international Steven Mukwala was the star of the match, scoring two brilliant goals. Mukwala opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game and sealed the victory in injury time, ensuring maximum points for the Porcupine Warriors.
Speaking after the game, Ogum expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support. “The fans were amazing. They were very supportive, they were always behind us anytime we had the ball and anytime we did not have the ball I realized that they were calm. We didn’t experience the usual ranting and I would like to thank them.”
He urged the fans to remain patient and supportive. “They should always be patient with us. Anytime we are playing, they should support us. Even when the going gets tough they should stay calm and support us, and that is the only way that these players will have the confidence, the determination, and the desire to play to win.”
The victory propels Kotoko into the top half of the table, now in 9th place, moving them further away from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak find themselves in a precarious position, sitting 14th on the table, just two points above the drop zone.
