Asante Kotoko have lifted the 2025 Champion-of-Champions trophy after defeating Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 in a tense encounter at DUNS Park on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors, who had struggled to beat the Miners during the recent GHALCA Top 4 tournament, broke their winless streak with a resilient display in the season’s curtain-raiser.
The breakthrough came in the 69th minute following a free kick earned from Kotoko’s attacking surge on the right flank. Musa Hamzata, a recent signing from Accra Lions, reacted quickest inside the box to slot home the decisive goal on his competitive debut.
Gold Stars pushed hard in the final stages in search of an equaliser, but Kotoko’s defence stood firm to secure victory.
This latest triumph adds to Kotoko’s impressive run of silverware in 2025, having already claimed the FA Cup, President’s Cup, and the Toyota Cup following their memorable win over South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in Durban.
The match also served as important preparation for both sides ahead of their continental campaigns. Bibiani Gold Stars will face JS Kabylie of Algeria, while Asante Kotoko will battle Kwara United of Nigeria in the preliminary rounds of the CAF interclub competitions.
