Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito blames injuries and other factors for recent setbacks

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has admitted that a combination of factors has contributed to the Porcupine Warriors’ uneven performance in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

After aiming to close the gap on league leaders Medeama SC, Kotoko suffered a setback with a disappointing loss to Nations FC over the weekend. Their struggles were compounded by a 3-1 defeat to Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium, leaving the club in fifth place with 35 points — eight behind the league leaders.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Zito acknowledged the hurdles his side has faced, highlighting injuries as a key issue.

“There are a lot of factors affecting us. We brought in good players, but some of them suffered injuries,” he said.

The experienced coach also reflected on the unpredictable nature of football and the need for continual growth.

“This is football; sometimes you will get it right, and sometimes you will get it wrong. But I believe that, as a coach, you have to keep learning and improving yourself regardless of the situation,” Zito added.

Despite their inconsistent league campaign, Kotoko are now turning their focus to the FA Cup, where they will face Aduana FC in the Round of 16 at the Baba Yara Stadium this weekend. The clash presents an opportunity for the Porcupine Warriors to regain confidence and momentum as they seek silverware this season.
