Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has outlined his strategic approach to scouting players as he gears up for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
Ogum, who is determined to improve the team’s performance after a disappointing 2023/24 season, revealed that he actively follows the league to identify potential recruits.
He also relies on a trusted network of scouts who help pinpoint players that align with his football philosophy.
“As a coach, when it comes to scouting, you engage a lot of people. Locally, I have been watching the league apart from our own matches. I have been watching other matches just to have a fair idea of most of these players so that when it comes to scouting, I will be able to identify those I think fit into the way I think and feel and believe in what we call the football philosophy,” he told the club’s media.
He continued, “So I have been following our league to watch some of these guys. In addition, I have colleagues or scouts monitoring the league. They also do this for me. They try as much as possible to pencil in players they think fall within my way of thinking in my philosophy of play. What happens is that at the end of the day, we try to come together with what I have and what they also have, and then we try to see.”
Having already parted ways with around 18 players, Kotoko has been active in the transfer market, bringing in new signings to strengthen their squad.
