Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, emphasizes the need for players in the Ghana Premier League to enhance their work ethics to secure spots in the Black Stars squad.
Dr. Narteh Ogum’s call comes following his team’s defeat to Great Olympics during the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League’s Matchday 32.
Despite Otto Addo’s selection for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic, only one local player, Frederick Asare, made the 26-man squad.
Addressing the issue, Narteh Ogum highlighted, “We have quality in the league, individual players are very good, but it all depends on the coach who is making the call-ups.”
He further stated, “As coaches, we need to work harder, and as players, they also need to work harder so that moving forward, more players will be called up to join the Black Stars.”
Ghana is set to face Mali in Bamako on June 6 and CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on June 10, aiming to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time.
