Asante Kotoko SC has officially confirmed that two of their players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both Sudanese nationals, are currently missing from the team’s camp in the United States.
According to the club’s statement, the players left the team’s hotel without permission on Friday, October 11, 2024, and all efforts to contact or locate them have been unsuccessful. The club has since notified U.S. law enforcement authorities, including the FBI, and is cooperating fully to ensure their safe return.
Asante Kotoko, originally scheduled to face D.C. United in the Capital City Africa Cup, will now be represented by a Ghana Week DC Select Side due to visa issues affecting their squad. The event is part of the Ghana Week celebrations aimed at promoting Ghanaian culture, tourism, and sports in the U.S.
The club has urged supporters to remain calm as they work with the relevant authorities to resolve the situation.
