Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has acknowledged Asante Kotoko’s keen interest in their seasoned striker, John Antwi.
The forward, formerly of Al Ahly and Pyramids FC, has displayed remarkable prowess for Dreams FC, particularly in the CAF Confederation Cup, where he contributed four goals in eight standout performances.
Antwi’s stellar contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, earning him recognition as one of the home-based players in the provisional list for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This prestigious acknowledgment reflects the impact of his performances on the field.
Amidst Asante Kotoko’s expressed interest in acquiring Antwi’s services, Coach Zito remains steadfast in redirecting Dreams FC’s immediate focus towards their ongoing African campaign. Zito affirms that any discussions concerning a potential move to Kotoko will be entertained post-season, and the ultimate decision will hinge upon the player’s preference.
Confirming Kotoko’s inquiry, Zito shared insights during an interview with West Gold Radio, stating, “Asante Kotoko have asked for the services of our striker John Antwi, but for now, our focus is on the Africa campaign. We will discuss a move with Kotoko after the season. Everything will depend on the player.”
John Antwi, who last donned the Black Stars jersey in 2020, harbors aspirations of clinching a spot in the final squad for the impending AFCON tournament, slated to be hosted in Ivory Coast next month. His dedication to regaining national team representation underscores the significance of this potential move in his career.
With Ghana assigned to Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique, the national team eyes an opportunity to enhance its AFCON legacy. Ghana boasts a formidable record with four AFCON titles, and the upcoming tournament, scheduled to commence on Saturday, January 13, and extend through to February 11, 2024, presents a chance for further glory on the continental stage.
