Asante Kotoko interim head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has revealed that his team will shift their focus towards winning the MTN FA Cup rather than chasing the Ghana Premier League title.
Although the Porcupine Warriors still have a chance to win both competitions this season, Zito believes the MTN FA Cup presents a more realistic opportunity for silverware. Kotoko currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with 51 points, five points behind leaders Gold Stars, and have booked a spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Speaking to the media after Kotoko’s goalless draw against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday, Zito explained the rationale behind the team’s new priority.
“When you look at both the FA Cup and the league, I think, if I’m not going to be selfish, we have to push more for the FA Cup,” Zito said. “So we are going to focus more on the FA Cup than the league. I have to be honest with you.”
The Porcupine Warriors are currently preparing for their upcoming MTN FA Cup semi-final showdown against defending champions Dreams FC.
