Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey remains grounded despite growing calls for his inclusion in the Black Stars squad.
Lamptey’s stellar performance against Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash has sparked advocacy for his presence in next year’s tournament, yet he maintains a humble stance.
Addressing the mounting calls, Lamptey emphasized that such praise should serve as motivation rather than inflating his ego. In a humble response, he expressed that, as a professional player, external expectations should propel him to work even harder to showcase his best on the field.
“I’ve heard calls for my inclusion in the Black Stars call up. But as a professional player, these things shouldn’t get into your head but rather should encourage you to work harder so you bring out your best. I won’t be swollen headed but I will keep working hard,” Lamptey conveyed to Kotoko media.
With the 2023 AFCON scheduled to kick off on January 13 in Ivory Coast, Ghana faces Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Egypt in the group stage. The impending tournament has heightened anticipation, and the spotlight is on Ghana coach Chris Hughton as he is expected to unveil his squad this month.
Lamptey’s commitment to remaining focused and dedicated amid the growing acclaim showcases his understanding of the responsibilities that come with professional football.
As the tournament draws near, the midfielder’s mindset reflects a determination to contribute meaningfully to his team’s success if granted the opportunity to represent the Black Stars on the grand stage.
The footballing community eagerly awaits Hughton’s squad announcement and the potential inclusion of emerging talents like Lamptey in the national lineup.
